Campaigns 2020

The MELOA validation and demonstration plans comprise several WAVY Test Campaigns in collaboration with different stakeholders from the marine community, to ensure the involvement of the users in the WAVYs' definition, testing and implementation of use cases. Due to the pandemic, these activities could not take place during a large part of the year. Yet, several innovative activities took place!

During the summer, a KUKA robotic arm was used to support the designing and validation activities of the energy harvester installed in the WAVY drifters. The robotic arm was used to simulate the movement of the ocean waves, in different sea conditions. Check out the video at KUKA robots used to test the WAVY Energy Harvester

Later in November, the MELOA team took part in an exercise to prevent and contain marine pollution by hydrocarbons, organized by MyCOAST. The team joined forces with RADAR-ON-RAIA to provide optimized estimates of surface velocity during the anti-pollution exercise. Learn more at MELOA, RADAR-ON-RAIA, and MyCOAST collaborate to conduct an anti-pollution exercise.

Finally, by the end of the year, the team got back on track with the sea activities once local mobility restrictions started being lifted, with several WAVY Test Campaigns in Portugal, Ireland and Spain.
